Dear Distinguished Media Professionals,
Under the patronage, and in the presence, of H.E. Minister of Labour Salim Jreissati, the Ministry of Labour (MOL), in collaboration with the International Labour Organization’s (ILO) International Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour (IPEC), cordially invites you to participate in a half-day workshop and roundtable on the recent increase in child labour and its worst forms in Lebanon. The event will take place on June 7, 2013 in order to prepare journalists to mark the occasion of the World Day Against Child Labour on June 12, 2013.
Child labour, especially its worst forms, is on the rise in Lebanon due to a variety of factors. These include the deteriorating socioeconomic situation, the lack of adequate social and child protection systems, as well as the current political and security situation that has been exacerbated by the influx of Syrian refugees to Lebanon. Accordingly, there is an urgent need to raise public awareness of child labour and various immediate measures that can be undertaken to preserve the inalienable rights of all children in Lebanon.
This event will provide a unique opportunity for media professionals to enrich their knowledge as well as gain access to vital information and methods to cover child labour in the media ethically and effectively. In addition, the workshop will provide media professionals with the chance to engage government officials and decision makers involved in the fight against child labour.
Please find the programme of this event attached herein.
The event will be followed by a Luncheon.
Date and Time: June 7, 2013, 9:30 — 2:15
